It's been weeks since Jason and his two friends had willingly left their safe home of Midland, where the Norther Michigan Safe Zone was located. They hadn't stopped for longer then a week between trips. But it was time for them to slow down and think of all the shit they to process while they were traveling. The three of them were careful, ready for anything that was to come and that's what Jason made sure of. He wasn't going to lose anyone. Not when he didn't have to.
Being on the road can change someone, more then he thought he would change. The world now was no where like the world when everything happened. When he had Heather. He fought to keep her alive, fought to make it back to Michigan from New York. He needed to do that.
When he let Heather to a biter his world collapsed and the two people that were traveling with him were the only ones he could actually say he trusted. After everything they've been through together, after them pulling him out of the dark hole he was in after having to kill Heather, they were his family.
The summer air in Virginia was different then in Michigan. He had made his friends take some time to themselves so that they weren't moving too much. The heat was getting to them anyway. Jason knew that he needed to slow down. He couldn't go further without running into problems. Biters seemed to take over towns, over fields and forests but Jason and his friends found a small farm out in the middle of a field where they've been for about a week now. Somewhere just west of Springfield.
They had been following signs for a safe place to stay called Alexandria. After hearing of all the shit that happened in the south, he began to question if his family would even be there or if they'd be traveling north. Everyone else seemed to. It wouldn't help to try and see if his sister was there.
Walking around the field, he took it all in. It was cleared out by all the biters and there weren't any visible threats. It never stopped Jason from carrying his gun and knife however. He knew there was always something out there, if not to hurt them, then something to eat.
He began walking along a trail towards a small town nearby, hoping to find some extra supplies for them.
